Exploring China Through Play: CLC Pittsburgh Launches Chinese Board Game Club

September 20, 2026 — Chinese Library for Children (CLC) successfully launched its first Chinese Board Game Club gathering in Pittsburgh, bringing children together for an afternoon of language learning and cultural discovery.

2026年9月20日， 中文儿童图书馆（CLC）旗下“驯龙小队中文桌游社”在匹兹堡成功举办首场活动，以趣味桌游开启了一场别开生面的中华山河探索之旅。

The session began with a fast-paced fruit-counting and bell-ringing game, followed by Discover China, a geography-themed board game.

活动以紧张刺激的水果抢铃数字游戏热身，随后进入主题桌游《山河之旅》。不识字的小朋友通过城市的标志性建筑和文化元素辨认城市，识字的孩子则通过阅读城市名称，在地图上寻找对应位置。

Younger children identified cities through famous landmarks and cultural symbols, while older children read city names and located them on the map. Starting from Beijing, participants learned to recognize the capital by spotting the Great Wall!

“首都北京在哪里？”大人们提示孩子，中国地图像一只雄鸡，北京就在“鸡脖子”附近。不过，孩子们很快发现，寻找长城才是最直观的方法！

To encourage Mandarin conversation, each child received five chances to speak English. Every English slip cost one little star, creating an amusing challenge that everyone enthusiastically embraced.

为了鼓励中文交流，活动还设置了有趣的语言挑战：全程尽量说中文，每位小朋友只有五次使用英文的机会，每被发现一次就失去一颗小星星。孩子们虽然有些不舍，却都认真遵守规则，童真十足。

Through playful exploration, children practiced Mandarin, discovered Chinese geography, and connected with their cultural heritage.
